AATC MtWD: Chapter 1: Playing Dress-up

A pale, black-haired woman in a black dress stood tied to a wooden stake, screaming curses at the top of her voice. Her eyes rolled wildly and she cried out in pain as the flames licked her feet, ankles, legs, and she --

"I am not watching this garbage," Simon complained, grabbing the remote and switching the channel over to a science documentary. Alvin groaned, bored, and slumped down in his seat.

"It was just getting to the good bit!" he whined, glaring at his blue-clad, bespectacled brother.

"Alvin..."

Dave called in from the living room: "Guys, the Chipettes are here!"

Alvin and Simon dropped their argument and ran to the door, eager to great their best friends. Theodore ran in from the kitchen, bringing with him the sweet smell of what had had been baking.

"Ugh, seriously? You're not even ready yet?" Brittany demanded, one hand on her hip. "We'd better not be late because of you!"

All the Chipmunks could do was stare, though.

Brittany's auburn hair had been taken from its usual high ponytail and curled into many delicate ringlets, twirling down past her shoulders; and her face was done up in blue eyeshadow (to match her eyes), blusher and pale lipstick. Her lashes had been coated gently in mascara and she wore a pink hoop skirt dress with white lace and poofy-sleeves. The dress was so long nobody could see what shoes she was wearing, but they were probably white heels. A rose was pinned to her dress and she was wearing golden earrings with an intricate design on them. Alvin was drawn back to her eyes by the make-up. They were shining angrily, like usual, and of course they were lovely. I love how shiny her eyes get when she's angry, Alvin thought to himself.

Jeanette had her long brown hair down and deliberately scruffed-up, with temporary emerald-green highlights that matched her eyes, pale make-up, dark mascara and blood-red lipstick. She wore a long red dress with a dark, velvety purple shaul attatched by a gold-and-purple broach, and long netting fingerless gloves. She was wearing home-made fangs that were stuck to her canine teeth and she could eat food with; a choker with a deep purple rose on the front and rhinestones under her eyes, reflecting the light and making them glimmer, Simon noticed. How beautiful. More so than even the most perfect gem, he thought, almost laughing out loud at himself for how corny that line was.

Eleanor's blonde hair hung in low ponytails for once, with golden coin-decorated scrunchies holding them in place under a three-cornered hat. Her brown eyes were outlines slightly with a little mascara and eyeliner; and she wore naturally-coloured make-up. Her white-and-deep green bodice shirt with frilly cuffs fit her nicely under the royal-coloured jacket and she wore dark skinny jeans under knee-high black boots. The hat was decorated with a couple of large feathers and she was still wearing the necklace Theodore gave her. I knew she'd love the necklace, Theodore thought happily.

"Well?" Brittany demanded, snapping the boys out of their thoughts. "Hurry up and get ready!"

The boys ran up to their room and the girls took seats on the couch. "Will you stop messing with your hair, Jeanette? You'll ruin it!" Brittany exclaimed. "And if you keep blinking so much those rhinestones will fall off!"

"Sorry," Jeanette muttered. Brittany shook her head.

"Okay!" Alvin called from the top of the stairs as he and his brothers made their way into the living room a few minutes later. "There? Happy? Can we go now?"

Alvin was dressed in dark clothes and platform shoes, with green skin dye all over his body and a black wig on; fake bolts in his neck. The dye made his eyes look more blue than usual, Brittany realised. But of course, it figured that he would go as Frankie. She should really ask how the guy was doing some time.

Simon wore dark pants and shiny shoes, a white top and a black waistcoat decorated with royal purple. A black cloak flowed behind him as he walked and his pale make-up made his steeley-blue eyes stand out. His hair was dark and slicked-back and he also wore home-made fake fangs. He had been practising tilting his head to one side, reaching out a and and smiling, all rosy-cheeked and shiny-eyes and he tried it out now. Jeanette almost had to readjust her glasses, the effect was so mesmerising.

Theodore looked almost like a puppy. A mane of dark hair swept down his back and he wore very plain clothes, but it wasn't hard to tell from the face-painted mark on his hand that he was supposed to be a werewolf. Eleanor smiled as she remembered when he had saved her from a full-grown werewolf.

"So let's go," Alvin said, holding out his arm to Brittany. She took it. "Your porcelain doll costume is amazing, by the way."

"Thanks," Brittany blushed.

Theodore took Eleanor's hand. "You make a cute pirate," he admitted, blushing.

"Aww, thank you Theodore," Eleanor giggled.

Alvin laughed suddenly. "Here come Dracula and his wife!" he yelled, as Jeanette took Simon's outstretched hand and they walked over together, too.

"Shut up," Simon snarled. "Let's just go to out Halloween concert, alright?"
